Brooklyn Dodgers Opening Day 1939 - Ebbets Field
The Brooklyn Dodgers hold a special place in the hearts of baseball fans. The franchise called New York home from 1883 to 1957 before moving west to Los Angeles for the start of the 1958 season. From Ebbets Field and the Sym-Phony Band to Red Barber, Jackie Robinson, Roy Campanella, Duke Snider, Carl Furillo, and Pee Wee Reese, the Brooklyn Dodgers represent one of baseball's golden ages.
On April 18, 1939, the Dodgers opened their season and ushered in a new era for the team as shortstop Leo Durocher took over as manager. Durocher would manage more than 3,500 Major League games but this game and ticket marks his first. Known as Leo The Lip for his temper and regular battles with umpires (he was ejected from 95 games), Durocher helped turn around the Dodgers and led them to the 1941 pennant.
