The 1978 New York Yankees won 100 regular-season games including a one-game playoff against the Boston Red Sox. The Yankees then knocked off the Kansas City Royals in the ALCS for the right to play the Los Angeles Dodgers in the World Series. While large contributions came from Reggie Jackson, Ron Guidry, Thurman Munson, Mickey Rivers and others, Bucky Dent was named World Series MVP as the Yankees defended their title in six games.
