The 1954 New York Giants were led to the NL pennant by regular-season MVP Willie Mays. In the World Series, the Giants squared off against the Cleveland Indians (winners of 111 games). In Game 1, Mays made one of baseball's greatest catches as he tracked down a Vic Wertz drive in deep center field. The Giants went on to win Game 1 in extra innings and sweep the Indians to claim the fifth title in franchise history.
