Released in October 1960 by RCA, G.I. Blues is the soundtrack from the movie of the same title which premiered Aug. 18, 1960. The album reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200 in 1961 and the single Wooden Heart hit No. 1 in the UK (and stayed there for six weeks).
The movie was filmed at Paramount's Hollywood Studios and on location in Germany while Elvis was enrolled in the military. Elvis stars as U.S. Army Specialist Tulsa McLean while Juliet Prowse stars as Lili, his love interest.
