For the 17th time in franchise history, the Boston Celtics are World Champions. Led by Paul Pierce, Ray Allen, and Kevin Garnett, the Celtics disposed of the Los Angeles Lakers in record-setting fashion at the Boston Garden. Boston seized the title with a 131-92 drubbing in Game 6. The 39-point victory set a record for the largest margin in an NBA Finals clinching game; the previous mark was 33 points set by the 1965 Celtics who also beat the Lakers.
And while Boston sports fans have been treated to three Patriots Super Bowl victories and two Red Sox World Series championships during the past seven seasons, this was the first title won on New England soil since 1986 when the Celtics beat the Houston Rockets for Banner No. 16.
